Welcome !
Reading CC has been promoting cycling in Berkshire since 1974. With over 200 members, the club is dedicated to giving cyclists the opportunity to race, ride and enjoy life on two wheels. We have something on offer for all sporting riders, with a series of evening time trials throughout the racing season, several social rides every week along with road racing, sportives, audax and cyclo-cross. We welcome new members to participate in all these activities. Please browse the site to learn more about us, and don't hesitate to contact a member of the committee for further information. Cotswold Edge Sportive and Haute Route Alps and Box Hill sportive

On Sunday 9th October the sun still shone on our sportive riders; Dave Ivory continued his consistent top form, joined by new club man Jon Crompton, Here's Dave's report:

"New club member Jon Crompton and David Ivory rode the end of season Cotswold Edge Sportive on Sunday 9th October. A fine, if a little chilly day was promised, so a last ride in summer kit and dry roads prevailed.

Bill Higson Memorial Cyclo-Cross Prospect Park, Reading Sunday 16 th October 2016

Bill Higson was a well-liked and enthusiastic member of Reading Wheelers Cycling Club.
The Son of Wheelers chairman Stan Higson (who led the club through to 1974 when it amalgamated to become Reading Cycling Club), Bill was a good all-rounder with success on both road and track including wins in the Presidents 50 (1960 & '61).

He always enjoyed the club cyclocross, called a 'scramble' in those days, and usually ended up in the pond at Burgfield Common, complete with bike, for a post-race 'dip'!

Bill was tragically killed in a road accident in 1965.

Alan Jacob (a well-known 'Independent' rider in the 1960s) gave the club a trophy, which became the 'Bill Higson Memorial Cup' to be awarded to the winner of the Club's annual Cyclo-Cross. The first winner being Dave Wren in 1966.

Tuesday TT 30th August 2016, Waltham St Lwrence 10 miles

What a lovely evening! Warm and sunny with a bit of a SW breeze. We weren’t the only people enjoying the weather and some riders were delayed by horses.

Tuesday TT Twyford HCC132 23 Aug 16

For the penultimate events of the season we had 15 riders. Massive thanks to officials Graham Patterson, Mike Fenwick, John Frisby and signage star Ray Bennett. Weather was stunning at the close of a hot sunny day and the roads were busy with other cyclists.

Club TT result 9/8/2016 - HCC259 Nettlebed/Pishill

It was a rather breezy and cool evening on which most riders did not manage to improve their times for this course. Dan Bigham was the notable exception. He trounced the rest of the field and pretty much every Strava segment on the course to demolish his own course record.

RideLondon 2016

Face of 2016 Finishers' medal

This year Reading CC had over 20 riders including two teams in the Club Challenge comprising a mixed team, 2M+2F, and 4M.

Here’s a combined report compiled from contributions by some of our riders:

Bob Birt
“I thought it would be a fast time for me, having met up with my son after Lime House Link we made good time until mile 38. Where we stopped by the unfortunate accident and consequently missed Leth Hill due to the diversion.
So in 3 attempts I have only done the full distance once, however it was a good ride and we made good time after we started riding again.”
