RCC Anthony Maynard Reliability Trial - 10th March 2019

By Anonymous - Posted on 09 March 2019

** Route update **

Please note that there are road works with a road closure on the planned route at Winter Hill Road as you enter Cookham Dean Common from Pinkney’s Green. We have reviewed all options and have decided that the safest alternative is to follow the diversion.

The diversion is at Winter Hill Road – please follow the road to the right down Choke Lane all the way to the bottom then turn left onto Dean Lane back towards Marlow. This is a safe road to ride but note that there is a T-Junction at the bottom of the descent.

Also, as a safety notice, please be careful descending Qarry Wood Road; there is a sharp right-hand bend which is off-camber.

Please see images below / attached and please contact me if you have any questions.

My phone number on the day is 07525 123 177.

Many thanks and see you on Sunday morning.

The second Sunday in March (10th) is the 2019 annual Anthony Maynard Spring Reliability Trial.

This year we have two new routes, both avoiding the A404 and with target times for the different ‘speed’ groups.

Please note this event is not a race, you should ride with normal consideration for your fellow riders and other road users, adhering to the rules of the road. It's also wise to come equipped to repair your own mechanical problems, as it's less likely that others might wait for you, compared with a normal club run!

All the fun of a sportive for a fraction of the outlay - we’d just like £3, or £2 under 18s to support our charities and you will also get a free coffee at the finish. Departures are near the first roundabout in Thames Valley Park with sign on from 08:30 The first group will depart at 09:00. President Rides from 09:45

There are two routes; The increasingly popular President’s ride (suitable for juniors) with an all new 50km (136m) route and the more challenging and new 92km (860m) route.

Depending on numbers there will be four or more groups, each with their average speed target. The aim of our Reliability Trial is to finish within (and as close to) your target time (Arrival ETA) for the fixed route. And on this basis the winner is chosen, i.e. a '0' Reliability ride - so it is not a race! Times will be recorded to the next complete minute.  As a guide, most riders finish within +/- 30 minutes of  their target. I have seen ‘track stands’ attempted at the end!

The start is on Thames Valley Park Drive, RG6 1PQ, with sign-on in the car park to the Water Sports Centre. Please be at the Thames Valley Park start well in advance of your chosen start time to sign on.

The finish is somewhere warm and comfortable - 'The Club' at Mapledurham Golf course (RG4 7UD).  Please take care on the narrow entrance road. There will be a place to put your bike, coffee, snacks and you can order a cooked breakfast if you wish!

Any riders under 16 must be accompanied by an adult on the ride, and 17 & 18 year olds need a completed parents’ consent form. Both need to provide a signed consent form as attached.

The ride is named after Anthony Maynard, a young man who'd grown up in the RCC family, and who was tragically killed in 2008. You can find out more about Anthony here: http://www.readingcyclingclub.com/taxonomy/term/18

We are supporting Anthony's favourite charity; World Society for the Protection of Animals (www.wspa.org.uk) and the local Air Ambulance service, (www.tvacaa.org) so please be prepared to make a £3 or £2 donation at sign on.

See you at the start !
