Jole Autumn Cotswold Sportive

Ian Macro reports:
"An early Sunday start to drive over to Westonbirt School near Tetbury for the Jole Rider Cotswold Autumn Sportive. Arrived just after 8 and not many cars in the very long, lush grass of the car park. Dribs and drabs of riders in 2s and 3s were leaving the start already. Good weather was in prospect, so I got my number, got changed and wandered to the start. Got my own personal briefing and photo, as no one else was starting at the same time! The route signage was very clear and good (except where it was absent, which happened twice on my way round). The route is mainly on small lanes, with some very sketchy surfaces, and is quite hilly for the first half. Despite offering 4 distances (100/70/50/30 miles) I found out later that only 200 riders attended, and only 35 of us doing the 100. That's a real shame for what turned out to be a great route. I suspect competition from the inaugural Birmingham Velo may have had a real impact. I seemed to be catching up other riders all day, and non-one seemed to be going my pace, so a solo ride it turned out to be, with zero draughting for a bit of respite. 4 official stops on the way around, all at pubs which looked very tempting, but with excellent cycling fare at all, and some cracking coffee at one stop. Ride time of 6.5 hours for a tad over 100 miles was OK, probably because 1900m of climbing was involved. Excellent preparation for my C2C weekend coming up in a fortnight. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ian-macro if you wish to donate a few £ to Water-Aid. Thanks"

Ian was awarded the Green Jersey - see separate picture
"Bit late in the day, but I've just had an email confirming I won the Green Jersey award as fastest rider to sign in to every checkpoint i.e. the longest distance ride. I am slightly taken aback!"
