RideLondon 2017 and Zappi GF

Mathew Brown and myself set off from Caversham at 3.15 in the morning. We should have had plenty of time but we somehow ended up in a bit of a panic to get to the start area in the allotted time. We found Ian Armstrong and Nick Lees and managed to get a team picture.
As anyone who has previously ridden this knows the start is fast and furious and it wasn't long before we were split up. I did meet another RCC member Jack Wade on the way round near Richmond Park. The ride went well for me (despite making some rookie kit errors) and I was pleased with my time of 4h34. After the finish line I also bumped into Natalie Bravo.
RideLondon is definitely worth doing at least once if you haven't already done so. It's a lot of hassle getting up there and signed in the day before but it's a great day.

Ride London PB for me. 4:39. How'd everyone get on? All safely finished I hope

I completed the RideLondon 100mile bike ride on Sunday. It was a lovely day out. Completed the ride in 5h 47min. I got a puncture 50miles in which took me 30 mins to fix because I had number hands.. but other than that, I really enjoyed the ride. The women's club runs have helped me a lot during my preparation for the ride. I didn't wear the RCC kit though as I did the ride for Macmillan Cancer Support and raised almost £600 which I'm very proud of.

Pete Ganderton who couldn’t ride this year, analysed results and commented:
‘Looks like a slower year at the pointy end...less than 30 under 4 hours, compared to 80 last year. I'd put this down to windier conditions, and damp surfaces. Also, less than 200 did the 46 mile option, despite all the PR around it.’

Zappi’s Gran Fondo
Mark Robinson - Zappi Medio sportive. Lost Gran route!
Well the Zappi Gran Fondo turned out to be one of these days were things don't go to plan. The event was smaller then I had expected, not a problem though but I had missed leaving with the main group on the Grand route of 104 miles? There were two shorter routes plus a Mountain Bike one to cater for all...
When I started I was soon on my owe & had to chase down two guys ahead so I had someone to ride with; not much of a warm up!
I soon noticed my riding height was changing & to my dismay the seatpost was slipping down some 7cm; having fitted a new one the day before. After 20 odd miles I found someone with a multi tool. Then it was back to chasing down the two guys I was riding with.
At the first feed stop the route split but we had a problem finding the route we wanted & ended up on the Medio route & we both thought blow it well do it instead.
The route was a mix of single track lanes one with a Ford to go though & B roads . We started from Kirtlington then as follows Moreton in Marsh, Chipping Campden , Shipston on Stour, Hempton.
I did the last 30 miles solo having dropped my companion on good turns . All in all it was still an enjoyable day with a good route.
At the finish there was a good vibe & a chance to relax & chat with the man himself Flavio Zappi who swore blind he knows me from somewhere. But I was thinking great but I'm not Italian & certainly not a ex-pro rider!
