Reading CC has a number of riders who actively participate in British Cycling and LVRC road racing events.Common circuits used by club riders are Hillingdon (near Heathrow), Thruxton, Castle Combe, MOD Chertsey and Eelmore. Many riders frequent events run by the Surrey League and an extensive calendar can be found on their website www.surreyleague.co.uk. Hillingdon cycle circuit is great for road racers of all ages and abilities. The circuit is specially made for cycle racing, about 1kM long, and has hills and turns. Every Tuesday evening in the summer it hosts a 3/4 category race and an E/1/2/3 category race, thus caters for all abilities. Bradley Wiggins even turned up one evening! Also in the summer, every other Wednesday it hosts a Masters evening catering for the over 40’s. There is one race, but top 10 in the over 40’s and over 50’s get placings. During the winter it hosts the Imperial Winter series every Saturday.

There are many other open road races in the area, including courses at Woodcote, Great Milton, and Stokenchurch. Again these will cater for all abilities from 4th to Elite category. Check out the British Cycling website for event listing and details.

Reading CC run two club competitions for road racing. RCC Road Race Champion is awarded to the highest place RCC rider in a nominated open road event, and Road Racer of the year is awarded to RCC rider with the highest number of British Cycling points in the season. You need to be a RCC first claim member to qualify.

As well as the weekly clubrun on Sundays road racers, members and local riders are encouraged to take advantage of the facilities at Palmer Park Velodrome.
